Skydio 3D Scan™ builds on top of the Skydio Autonomy flight engine, using groundbreaking AI to enable Skydio drones to automate the flight patterns required to generate photosets that capture every surface and angle of complex structures, and that are necessary to generate highly detailed digital twins. This means that professional drone operators of all skill levels can perform higher quality area mappings, physical asset inspections, and crime or crash scene reconstructions in record time and with minimal training.

Skydio 3D Scan™ is an evolved product based on the core learnings from Skydio House Scan for developing complex, autonomous workflows. Over the course of early testing we found that customers had:

  • 75% faster data capture leading to optimizing operations and reducing labor costs.

  • 30% lower reinspect rates thanks to the ability to achieve greater accuracy on the first pass, reducing the need for costly reinspections.

  • 30% reduction on hardware costs utilizing Skydio’s platform.

In 2023, I had the opportunity to present at AUVSI Xponential on Designing Autonomous Workflows where my fellow Product Designer and I discussed in-depth the design process for Skydio 3D Scan. Attendees learned about how we identified problems and barriers in current manual workflows for inspection to building improved automated workflows for autonomous drones. We guided attendees through the design evolution of House Scan to 3D Scan and Mission Planning to Autonomy assisted inspections.
